What does Scanning Engine mean?

There are three widely used Barcode Scanning engines:

· Laser - Most commonly used engine and scans 1D barcodes only

· Linear Imager (1D) - Less moving parts compared to laser but unlike an Area Imager it can only scan 1D barcodes

· Digital / Area Imager (1D and 2D) - Works similar to how a digital camera operates. It takes a picture of the barcode and decodes the data. Scans 1D and 2D barcodes and virtually all symbologies. If you're requirement is Laser only but you are looking to incorporate 2D barcodes at a later stage then choosing a Digital / Area Imager will future proof you for any upcoming projects.
